Where Is the Love?

I found myself listening to Where Is the Love?  over and over again today after a long stressful day , not as background noise, but properly listening. The words landed heavier than they used to. Maybe because the world has changed. Or maybe because I have.

What struck me most is how little of the song feels dated. It could have been written yesterday. War, racism, greed, division, children learning hatred before they learn compassion — the questions it asks are still unanswered. And that’s unsettling. Not because the song is pessimistic, but because it exposes something uncomfortable: we’ve heard this message for decades, yet we keep choosing the same paths.

The song doesn’t shout. It pleads. It sounds like someone tired of watching humanity hurt itself and still hoping, somehow, that we’ll do better.

Hatred Has Become Normalised

Today, hatred doesn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it’s wrapped in policy, in “just my opinion,” in jokes, in online dogpiling, in looking away. We’ve grown accustomed to seeing suffering on our screens and moving on with our day. Outrage has become entertainment. Empathy has become optional.

We are quicker to cancel than to understand.
Quicker to blame than to listen.
Quicker to defend our position than to protect a person.

And in all of this, humanity has failed people especially those who were already vulnerable.

The People Left Behind

When society becomes harsh, the strongest don’t feel it first. The vulnerable do.

Children who don’t fit the system.
People with disabilities treated like burdens.
Families crushed by poverty, grief, or bureaucracy.
Those struggling with mental health, told to “be resilient.”
Immigrants reduced to numbers.
Elderly people forgotten once they’re no longer “productive.”

These are not abstract issues. These are real lives being worn down quietly while the world debates louder topics.

A lack of love doesn’t always look like violence. Sometimes it looks like neglect.

The Ripple Effect of a Loveless World

When love disappears, trust goes with it.
When trust disappears, fear fills the gap.
And fear makes people cruel in the name of self-protection.

Children grow up thinking aggression is strength.
Adults grow tired and emotionally numb.
Communities fracture.
People stop believing that kindness matters.

The damage compounds not just socially, but spiritually. A world without love is exhausting. It drains hope. It teaches people to survive instead of care.

A Hard Truth We All Share

There is one thing no amount of power, money, or influence can change:

Every single one of us will leave this earth one day.

When that happens, titles disappear.
Status fades.
Arguments quieten.

What remains is what you left behind.

The good you did continues in people’s lives.
The harm you caused echoes too.
The love you showed or withheld outlives you.

We don’t get to control how long we’re here, but we do get to control the mark we make.

So Show Love — Deliberately

Not the performative kind.
Not the convenient kind.
The everyday, uncomfortable, human kind.

Show love when you could ignore.
Show love when it costs you time.
Show love when it challenges your assumptions.
Show love when no one is watching.
Show love to people who can give you nothing back.

Because in the end, the world doesn’t change through grand speeches alone.
It changes through repeated, ordinary acts of humanity.

One day, we will all be gone.
But the love or the lack of it will remain.

So while you’re here,
choose love.

If this piece resonated with you, then I ask you to pause for a moment, not just to reflect, but to act.
