  • Why Airbnb Makes the Perfect Side Hustle

Here’s why I believe Airbnb is such a great side hustle for anyone looking to earn extra income:

    1. Low Start-Up Costs: You don’t need to invest in expensive properties to get started. Whether it’s a spare room, a guest house, or an apartment you’re not using, you can start small and scale up.
    2. Immediate Earning Potential: Once your listing is live, you’re able to start making money almost immediately, especially if you price it right and make your space inviting.
    3. Flexibility: The best part about hosting on Airbnb is the freedom it gives you. It’s not a 9-to-5 job, and you can control how much you want to work and when. This makes it perfect for people who want to earn income on the side while keeping their main job or lifestyle intact.

Step 1: Find the Right Space

Let’s start with the basics: you don’t need to be in a tourist hotspot to make money on Airbnb.

It’s true! There’s always demand for clean, comfortable, and well-located spaces. Whether you have a spare bedroom, an entire apartment, or even a cozy guest house , there’s someone out there looking for exactly what you have.

When I started, I listed a spare room in my home, and over time, I grew to manage more properties. I recommend starting small, testing the waters, and seeing how your first listing performs. You might be surprised at how quickly it can take off.

Step 2: Create a Listing That Sells Itself

Your Airbnb listing needs to stand out. Here’s a pro tip: great photos and a clear description can make a world of difference. People are looking for places that feel welcoming, cozy, and accessible.

Invest in natural lighting and take pictures from angles that showcase the best parts of your space. Your title and description should also be compelling and concise , highlight what makes your space special. And always ask yourself: Would I want to stay here?

    Step 3: Automate the Process

Once you’ve set up your listing, you’ll want to save time by automating as much of the process as possible. That’s where tools like Smartbnb, iGMS, and Airbnb’s Smart Pricing come in. These tools automate guest communications, cleaning schedules, and even check-ins.

By automating these tasks, you free up your time to focus on other important things while your side hustle runs smoothly.

Step 4: Price Smartly for Maximum Earnings

Here’s a huge tip: dynamic pricing is key to boosting your earnings. Tools like Pricelabs and BeyondPricingautomatically adjust your nightly rates based on demand, season, and local competition.

This helps you get the best rate for your space, depending on the time of year and your local market. It can turn your listing from a “side hustle” to a consistent money-maker. Trust me, getting your pricing right can be a game-changer.

Step 5: Scale Your Airbnb Side Hustle

Once you’ve mastered your first listing, you might feel ready to scale. Scaling doesn’t mean rushing into managing multiple properties all at once. Start by making sure your systems are in place.

For example, you can expand by offering co-hosting services or partnering with property owners who need help managing their Airbnb listings. With the right systems, you can grow your side hustle into something more without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Clowning Their Way to Success: How Nigerian Comedians Redefined Stardom

    Comedy in Nigerian Terms
In Nigeria, comedy has never been “just jokes.” It’s an art of survival, a coping mechanism, and a cultural performance rolled into one. From roadside banter to stage shows and, more recently, YouTube skits, comedy in Nigeria reflects the resilience and wit of a people who turn hardship into laughter. What used to be seen as a pastime for “dropouts” has evolved into a serious, lucrative career path dominated by sharp, creative, and highly educated minds.

From Stand-Up to Skitmaking: The Evolution
The roots of Nigerian comedy are grounded in stand-up pioneers like Ali Baba, Basketmouth, Julius Agwu, and AY, who turned packed auditoriums into global showcases. Then Nollywood blurred the lines—remember Jenifa? Funke Akindele transformed from a talented actress into a household name and megastar through her iconic comic role. That crossover moment proved comedy was no longer secondary, it was central to Nigerian pop culture.

Fast forward to the 2010s, and YouTube, Instagram, and later TikTok revolutionised the game. The new wave of comedians swapped out physical stages for digital screens, creating short-form content known locally as skitmaking. With smartphones and data bundles as their main tools, they reached millions without gatekeepers.

The Rise of Skit Kings and Queens
Today, the biggest comedy stars aren’t just on stage—they’re on your phone.

    • Broda Shaggi, whose “Oya Hit Me” street-style comedy grew into a brand empire, now earns global recognition. His skits land him on international stages, from Vogue features to guest appearances at luxury weddings like Temi Otedola’s.
    • Kiekie, with her sharp wit and style-driven humour, has become a YouTube sensation, bridging fashion and comedy effortlessly.
    • Bimbo Ademoye, equally versatile, balances skit appearances with Nollywood films, further proving that comedy and mainstream acting now go hand-in-hand.

It’s not an exaggeration to say many of these comedians are earning up to $300,000 a month from brand endorsements, YouTube monetisation, event appearances, and merchandise. In fact, some comedians now make more than CEOs of banks and multinational corporations.

    Why Nigeria Needs Comedy
In a country where economic hardship, political drama, and daily stress dominate, comedy is more than entertainment, it’s therapy. During COVID-19 lockdowns, when the world felt heavy and uncertain, Nigerians turned to TikTok and Instagram skits for relief. That moment cemented comedy’s place as a public necessity, not a luxury. It connected communities, gave people hope, and provided a platform for talents who might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

    The Bigger Picture
Comedy in Nigeria has become a multi-million-dollar industry that fuels careers, empowers youths, and exports Nigerian culture globally. What was once dismissed as clowning has become one of the most innovative, profitable, and socially vital industries in Africa today.

    How It’s Going
From crowded Lagos comedy clubs to global magazine covers, Nigerian comedians are writing their success stories one laugh at a time. What started as a survival hustle has blossomed into a billion-naira industry, proving that laughter is not just medicine. It’s big business

  • The Power of Access: Why What (and Who) You Can Reach Matters More Than Ever

Motivation for This Article: A Post That Sparked Reflection

As I was scrolling through Instagram recently, a post caught my eye. It was by Chief Dele Momodu, a renowned Nigerian journalist, publisher, and political figure. The post, aptly titled “The Power of Access, featured images of Chief Momodu with world leaders, celebrities, and captains of industry. Beyond the glitz, what struck me most was how access had shaped his journey, from humble beginnings to dining with presidents and royals. It was even more personal for me, as Chief is married to my childhood friend, Mobolaji (née Adaramaja). Seeing that post reminded me how powerful access can be, not just for prestige, but for transformation.

What Is Access? (And Why It’s Deeper Than You Think)

Access, simply put, means the ability to reach, connect with, or benefit from something or someone. But as we often say, “there is access, and there is access.”

    Access could mean:

    • Entry into quality education.
    • The ability to walk into a hospital and get excellent care.
    • Sitting across the table from a decision-maker.
    • Logging into the internet and finding the right AI tools or mentors.

Access isn’t just about proximity. It’s about possibility, the chance to shift your reality because you could tap into something (or someone) most others couldn’t.

    When Access Changes Everything

    1. Access to Good Education

Access to quality education, when used wisely, can radically change the trajectory of one’s life. Countries like Finland and Singapore have proven this. By prioritising accessible education systems, they’ve empowered their citizens to become innovators, problem-solvers, and contributors to national prosperity.

    2. Access to Infrastructure

When a society provides access to:

    • Reliable healthcare, lives are extended, and productivity increases.
    • Efficient transport, businesses flourish and mobility improves.
    • Internet and electricity, digital skills and economic inclusion thrive.

Access to infrastructure isn’t just convenient, it’s empowering. Research consistently shows that regions with strong infrastructure experience faster economic growth, higher life expectancy, and improved quality of life.

    3. Access to People

Having access to the right people can open doors education alone may not. Mentors, leaders, investors, allies—one conversation can change your entire direction. As Chief Momodu’s post highlighted, relational capital is often more powerful than financial capital.

A Personal Reflection: Access That Saved My Son

In the early days of my son Akintade’s autism diagnosis, I was overwhelmed. But I had one advantage—access to information. I sought out global research, therapy techniques, and support communities. That access helped me put together a holistic care plan tailored to his needs. He became the best of himself. Information is not power unless you have access to it and use it.

How Today’s Youth Can Leverage Access

We live in the most connected age in human history. The rise of Artificial Intelligence, online education platforms, and remote work means a young person in Lagos or Luton can learn from the same sources as someone in Silicon Valley.

But access must be active. It’s not just about having the internet—it’s what you do with it:

    • Take AI courses from platforms like Coursera, Udemy, or Khan Academy.
    • Use free tools like ChatGPT or Notion AI to build businesses, solve problems, or write code.
    • Join global communities on Discord, LinkedIn, and Slack to connect with mentors.
    • Follow people and pages that curate and share high-value insights and opportunities.

Where Can You Find Access to the Right People?

Access is not always about fame—it’s about alignment. Here are a few ways to get into the right rooms:

    • Volunteer at events, organisations, or causes that align with your passion.
    • Join communities like Tech Twitter, Skool groups, LinkedIn networks, or WhatsApp mastermind groups.
    • Engage in conversations : don’t just scroll; comment, contribute, and connect.
    • Be of value—often the fastest way to gain access is to offer it first.

And of course, follow those who have walked the path before you—they hold keys that can unlock new levels in your journey.

Final Thoughts: Unlocking Your Next Level Starts With Access

Access is one of the most underrated currencies of this generation. Whether it’s access to clean data, powerful people, strategic information, or empowering systems—what you can access defines what you can achieve.

Don’t just wish for success—get into the rooms, platforms, and circles where success is being built.

Whether you’re navigating autism support, starting a digital business, or learning AI—the right access will accelerate your journey.

  • How to Launch a Profitable Airbnb Business

Are you dreaming of turning your home or investment property into a cash-generating Airbnb business? With the rise of short-term rentals, Airbnb has opened doors for aspiring entrepreneurs to create a steady stream of income. Whether you’re renting out a spare room or managing multiple properties, starting an Airbnb business can be a rewarding venture—if you do it right.

In this blog, I will break down the steps to help you launch your Airbnb business and achieve success in this growing market.

Step 1: Do Your Homework – Research the Market

Before jumping in, it’s crucial to understand the landscape. Here’s what you need to do:

    • Check Local Regulations: Different cities and towns have different rules about short-term rentals. Ensure you’re aware of laws, permits, and any taxes you might need to pay .
    • Market Research: Check Airbnb in your area. See what types of properties are doing well, what their nightly rates are, and how often they’re booked.
    • Estimate Profitability: Use tools like Airbnb’s pricing calculator to see potential earnings. Factor in costs such as property management, utilities, cleaning fees, and taxes.

Step 2: Find the Perfect Property

A great property makes all the difference. Here’s how to find it:

    • Location, Location, Location: Pick a spot that attracts travelers—whether it’s near tourist attractions, in a quiet suburb, or near business hubs.
    • Property Type: Will you be renting a single room, an entire apartment, or a house? Remember, unique properties tend to stand out and perform well.
    • Buy or Rent: If you’re renting, make sure your lease allows short-term rentals. If you’re buying, consider whether the property’s potential income will cover mortgage and other expenses.

Step 3: Prep Your Property for Guests

Once you have the perfect property, it’s time to make it guest-ready:

    • Renovations and Decor: Keep the space comfortable, stylish, and functional. Neutral, modern decor usually appeals to the most people.
    • Stock Up on Essentials: Ensure your space has Wi-Fi, kitchen supplies, fresh linens, and toiletries. Think of what guests would need for a comfortable stay.
    • Professional Photos: Great photography is key. High-quality images will make your listing stand out in a sea of competition.

Step 4: Craft a Winning Airbnb Listing

A strong listing can make or break your bookings. Here’s how to get it right:

    • Compelling Title and Description: Use a catchy title and describe the property’s best features. Highlight amenities, location perks, and any unique aspects.
    • Smart Pricing: Use Airbnb’s “Smart Pricing” tool to adjust rates based on demand. Offering competitive pricing at first can help you gain traction.
    • Clear House Rules: Set clear expectations for your guests. Include rules on smoking, pets, noise, and check-in/out times.

Step 5: Set Up Your Business for Success

Running an Airbnb business is still running a business. Here’s how to stay organized:

    • Register Your Business: Depending on your location, you may need to register your Airbnb as a formal business entity.
    • Create a Business Bank Account: Separate personal and business finances by opening a dedicated bank account for your Airbnb income and expenses.
    • Prepare for Taxes: Short-term rental income is taxable, so it’s important to keep detailed records. Use accounting software to track your expenses and income.

    Step 6: Automate and Delegate

Running an Airbnb can be time-consuming, but there are ways to lighten the load:

    • Enable Instant Book: Let guests book instantly to increase your chances of getting bookings without having to approve every guest manually.
    • Hire Cleaning Services: Hire a professional cleaning crew to keep your property spotless between guests. Automate cleaning schedules using tools like TurnoverBnB.
    • Property Management: If you’re managing multiple properties or just don’t have the time, consider hiring a property manager to handle guest interactions, maintenance, and other tasks.

Step 7: Get the Word Out – Marketing Your Listing

Now that your Airbnb is live, it’s time to attract guests:

    • Optimize Your Listing: Keep your calendar updated and respond quickly to inquiries for higher search rankings on Airbnb.
    • Social Media & Ads: Promote your property on social media and consider running ads on Facebook or Instagram.
    • Cross-List on Other Platforms: Expand your reach by listing on other short-term rental platforms like Vrbo and Booking.com.

    Step 8: Deliver a 5-Star Guest Experience

The guest experience will determine your success, so go above and beyond:

    • Fast Responses: Answer guest questions and requests quickly to make their stay seamless.
    • Personal Touches: Add thoughtful extras like local guides, snacks, or a welcome gift to leave a lasting impression.
    • Handle Issues Professionally: If a guest has a complaint, address it promptly and politely to maintain a high rating.

    Step 9: Monitor and Improve

Once your business is up and running, continuously optimize it:

    • Track Reviews: Guests’ feedback is a goldmine. Use it to make improvements to your space and service.
    • Adjust Pricing: Be aware of seasonality and local events. Adjust your prices to maximize bookings.
    • Track Your Financials: Use accounting software to monitor your income and expenses. Make adjustments as needed to improve profitability.

Step 10: Expand Your Airbnb Empire

Once you’ve mastered one property, consider expanding:

    • Invest in New Properties: If your first property is successful, expand by purchasing or managing additional listings.
    • Outsource: As your portfolio grows, consider outsourcing guest communication, cleaning, and property management to streamline operations.

Conclusion: Start Your Airbnb Business Today!

Starting an Airbnb business is a great way to create passive income and build wealth. By following these steps, you can lay the foundation for a successful short-term rental business and, with time and effort, grow it into a profitable venture.
